There has been a lot of anxiety in our housing markets over these last several months. More than 100 mortgage lenders, including Atlanta-based Homebanc, are either out of business or in bankruptcy. Sales of new and existing homes are down, as are home prices. Buyers with less-than-good credit face the real prospect of having to rent because they can no longer get financing to buy. Many homebuilders are hurting because they have excess inventory that has not sold as quickly as they would like.

This market turbulence has left many potential homebuyers wondering whether they should continue to sit on the sidelines or start the search for a new home. The question that seems to be weighing on the minds of many buyers is whether home prices will continue to fall. Every buyer wants a good deal, but no one wants to buy only to see his or her investment erode soon after.
